When I changed the platform from the default
(jdk5) to jdk1.4.2 for my webapp project, nb 
started scanning the jars. I believe it was 
while scanning rt.jar that nb suddenly stopped 
without warning. It wrote a hs_err_pid1064.log 
in the nb folder (attachment). When I restarted 
I got the "allready running" message.

Well it's a JVM crash; probably nothing we can do about it unless
there is some way to reproduce. You are however encouraged to file the
VM error log on Sun's Java bug reporting page.
