Currently, with the 20031127 dev build, there are two styles of window closing icons, one for editor tabs and one for window tabs. The editor tabs use a small 'x' without an etched border. The other windows use a bold capital [X] with a bold etched border. I'd like to suggest that there be just one style of editor closing icon. IMHO, it should be the same as that currently used for the editor tabs.
Which look and feel please? I expect that Metal. Current impl is OK from the point of view of Visual winsys spec, see at http://ui.netbeans.org/docs/ui/ws/ws_visual_spec_metal.html So I would close this as wontfix, but reassigning to visual UI expert first for final decision.
I realize these screenshots were taken with XP L&F, the close buttons here (http://www.netbeans.org/images/screenshots/4.0/Outline.png) aren't "normal" native XP MDI close buttons. Since netbeans "windows" are no longer MDI windows, there's no reason (IMHO) to continue using the MDI close buttons and it's possible to go with the cleaner looking close...
There's no border on close buttons in non-editor tabs.
