Description pzajac 2003-04-30 09:21:12 UTC
The scripting module
(http://scripting.netbeans.org) is not listed in
http://www.netbeans.org/catalogue/index.html.

report from user:

This morning I have downloaded 3.5 RC 1 (which
seems to be removed from the download page
http://www.netbeans.org/downloads/ide/development.html
again).

I have read that some features that existed in
previous IDE releases have been removed from the
standard distribution, in particular the scripting
module.

Now I wonder where I can find this module for a
manual installation. It seems neither to be listed
on the modules catalogue
(http://www.netbeans.org/catalogue/index.html) nor
on the IDE updater.

Thanks for the report, I found a problem in the scripts
which generate the www catalogue pages.

(Note that the module *does* exist on the real AU - doing
an autoupdate from the IDE should display it.)

Please check also in issue #32771 which should be related.

Actually I think this is invalid; Marketing defined that
the www catalogue should show only modules which are not
included in the IDE builds, ie "extras". According to the
AU XML files, the scripting module is included in normal
builds :

34_1.5_.xml: <module  ...
codenamebase="org.netbeans.modules.scripting" ...
release="default, auto">

where "default" means included in default builds. So it is
not displayed in the www catalogue ... Maybe this should be
made clear on the catalogue pages somehow, I will do that.

OTOH if the module really has been removed from the build,
but the AU server does not correctly reflect that, then
this is a real bug, I guess a duplicate of 32771 ? Rudo,
can you comment ? Was scripting removed from builds ?

Still investigating this.
Comment 5 jcatchpoole 2003-06-04 15:05:54 UTC
- Scripting module for NB 3.4 is included in the build, so
  is not visible on the www catalogue;

- l10n bundle only of scripting module is available on
  alpha 35 AU server - www catalogue currently ignores l10n
  modules (especially when there is no real module for
  that!)

- scripting module *is* available on alpha dev AU, however
  Marketing team have not yet approved it for display on
  www catalogue. In fact the www catalogue will soon be
  redesigned, and *no* alpha modules will be displayed ...

So, closing as INVALID, as the www catalogue is behaving
as mktg team want it to.

Note that www catalogue is just a "pretty" front end to the
real AU servers, and at any time using the AU client to
access the alpha dev server users can get the scripting
module.

Also note that this issue is only about the www catalogue;
if the scripting module really should appear on some AU
server where it currently does not, pls file a seperate
issue against AU.
