Description jcatchpoole 2002-10-22 13:07:52 UTC
About 4 years ago I got an email from someone who claimed
to be a member of the "abolish reset buttons" movement, or
somethign like that. He was asking me to remove the Reset
buttons from some forms on the website I was maintaining,
claiming that those buttons do more damage than good.

I thought it quite funny at the time, though I obliged his
request bcs it did seem to make sense. Since then I have
come to agree with him wholeheartedly. I cannot remember
one situation, *ever* that I have intentionally used a
Reset or Cancel button on a web form. I can however,
remember many (very infuriating) times that I have
accidentally clicked Reset and lost the last 5/10/20
minutes work. In fact the reason I am filing this issue is
that it happened to me yesterday right here in IZ.

Please consider removing Reset buttons from any existing
forms in SourceCast, and not using them going forward!

Thanks.

Hi Jack,
Update: The discussion around this issue was interesting. We can
understand how frustrating it would be to accidentally hit a reset
button and lose that information. But in the end there were some valid
arguments for the reset button so the response to the internal issue
was "WontFix". One argument against the reset was that it was better
to just reload the page. But in some situations, such as dealing with
workflow in our new issue tracker, the reset works after a workflow
has been saved, so it does more than reloading the page.
Action Plan: Marking this issue Won't Fix.
Thanks,
Kristen
