In the window "file" (CTRL-2) when you click on a libreoffice .odt file (or any other external file unknown by Netbeans) you are warned that is a binary file and it's not a proper file for the text editor.

So I think: "well I could surely associate the extention as in every editor of the planet". By looking around I've only found I can associate by mime type and in the list application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text (the proper type for odt) is not present and typing a new mime is not allowed.

So it appears to me I can't associate arbitrary extension to external programs and the only way to go is right click -> "Open in system".


Could be nice and probably trivial to realize, if clicking "Open as..." showed in the list of mime something like "open in system" so that the next times a double click is the equivalent to "Open in system".
I don't care if the icon remains general doc. It's surely better than right click -> open in system to be repeated 100 time a day... it's quite annoying.
