Description hiroshiy 2002-07-09 10:25:51 UTC
To Reproduce:

  1. Download NetBeans 3.4 installer for RedHat
     Linux, and run installer
    "NetBeansODE-xxxxxx-linux.bin".

  2. Install Shield is started.
And, Error has occurred (<- This error is
           filed as another issue).

  3. Characters (include some ascii characters)
in the terminal are not correctly.

This might be based on Install Shield's Known
Problem.
Install Shield assumes SJIS locale, for any RedHat
Linux environment.

In FFJ 4.0, Messages for standard output are
indicated in English,
even if in japanese locale.

Comment 2 Ken Frank 2002-07-09 16:23:17 UTC
Has the installer for nb3.4 incorporated the fixes
done in ffj installer for multilingual release
related to bug traq issues 4670192, 4670303, 4672122
and others ?

Winston Prakash, the ffj installer engineer, can give you
more information on fixes done on installer releated to
i18n - this iz issue seems to be same as one of the
bt issues noted above.

Hello,

This issue is re-appeared in following environment.

   - NetBeans Development Build (trunk, 200212020100)
   - RedHat Linux 7.2 ja (LANG=ja_JP.eucJP, LANG=ja_JP.SJIS)
   - jdk 1.4.1 (build 1.4.1-b21)

And, this is re-appeared only japanese locale.
 (ja_JP.eucJP, ja_JP.SJIS)
When I run NB installer in C locale, English UIs are appeared
correctly in the terminal.
Could someone re-investigate this ??

Hiroshi
Comment 9 Richard Gregor 2002-12-04 08:23:30 UTC
Is it problem only on jdk1.4.1? Rudolf, is it something changed in
build (removed patch?)?
Comment 10 rbalada 2002-12-04 10:37:05 UTC
Hiroshi,
the installer build machine (Win2k) was not touched for couple of
months regarding JDK or InstallShield upgrade, build shell script
changes etc.
Would you, please, check whether the same behavior appears in older NB
installers (say of beginning of November etc)?

Also from my own experience JDKs 1.4.x on RedHat Linux boxes are very
sensitive to content of LANG environment variable. Perhaps stupid
hint, but would you try it also with LANG=ja_JP (w/o dotted extension)?
Comment 11 hiroshiy 2002-12-05 00:31:49 UTC
Hello Rudolf,

Results are followings.

  - NB 2002 1202 0100, jdk1.4.1, LANG=ja_JP.eucJP: re-appeared
  - NB 2002 1202 0100, jdk1.4.1, LANG=ja_JP: re-appeared
  - NB 2002 1202 0100, jdk1.4.0_02, LANG=ja_JP.eucJP: re-appeared
  - NB 2002 1202 0100, jdk1.4.0_02, LANG=ja_JP: re-appeared
  - NB release34 2002 0822 2340, jdk1.4.1, LANG=ja_JP.eucJP:
re-appeared
  - NB release34 2002 0822 2340, jdk1.4.1, LANG=ja_JP: re-appeared
  - NB release34 2002 0822 2340, jdk1.4.0_02, LANG=ja_JP.eucJP:
re-appeared
  - NB release34 2002 0822 2340, jdk1.4.0_02, LANG=ja_JP: re-appeared

I feel that, this problem haven't been repaired, yet.
Hiroshi.
Comment 12 Richard Gregor 2002-12-05 08:41:42 UTC
Could you consult this with Ken, please? It might be problem somewhere
in testing.
Comment 13 Jesse Glick 2002-12-23 16:36:27 UTC
Consistent use of the I18N keyword.
Comment 14 Keiichi Oono 2003-05-27 03:43:10 UTC
It can be reproduced with NetBeans 3.5 RC2.

RedHat 7.2
locale: ja_JP.eucjp
JDK: 1.4.1_02

Would you please try to reproduce again?
I think it can be reproduced in normal test case. I guess the English
message should be displayed in the above environment, but the
corrupted Japanese message is displayed.
Comment 15 Ken Frank 2003-05-27 16:52:02 UTC
I also see this now on Linux.

What are the possiblities of messages from us or
Installshield that might show in console ?

Perhaps we can add to release notes about them
or force the messages into English ?
But if forcing messages to english for console
would also force them to english for installer
panels itself, that would not help.

Comment 16 Keiichi Oono 2003-06-04 14:07:14 UTC
If it can be fixed as same as Sun ONE Studio installer, the English
message will be displayed only in terminal. I've changed the priority
from P3 to P2, because corrupted character always displayed in
terminal. And 'Terminal Reset' is needed after installation.
Is it too late to fix in 3.5?

Keiichi
Comment 17 Richard Gregor 2003-06-04 14:51:10 UTC
I'm not sure it is not late, but I'll try to do the best. Could you
please let me know bug number fixing the same problem in S1S? Also if
you have contact to person who fixed it, please let me know (but it
will be in bugreport).
Comment 18 hiroshiy 2003-06-05 01:47:16 UTC
Same issue in bugtraq is #4670192 in Ken's comment (07//09/2002) as above.
And it was already fixed.

Hiroshi
Comment 19 Richard Gregor 2003-06-05 07:35:49 UTC
Hm, so something should happend with patch. Rudolf, please could you
check it once more, if the mentioned patch is still on build env?
Comment 20 rbalada 2003-06-05 11:33:16 UTC
Richard,
I'm not sure, I know what patch you're talking about.
Comment 21 Richard Gregor 2003-06-05 12:57:59 UTC
I assume this issue was fixed. As it is mentioned above we got patch
from Winston. And this patch I'm thinking about. Do you remember that
patch? Maybe we have some backup of it somewhere.
Comment 22 Richard Gregor 2003-06-18 09:36:39 UTC
Patch is on build machine, so signing as fixed (preliminary test
passed). Please verify. Thanks
Comment 23 hiroshiy 2003-06-26 06:53:08 UTC
I've verified the fixing in all combinations of followings.

  - NetBeansIDE-release35-200306242351-ML-JA-linux.bin
      and NetBeansIDE-release35-200306242351-ML-JA-ZH-linux.bin
  - JDK 1.4.1_02 rpm
  - RedHat Linux 7.2 Japanese
  - ja_JP.eucJP, ja_JP.utf8, japanese.sjis, C

Thank you for the fixing !!!

Hiroshi
