At home I use 3 monitors. It's very common for netbeans not to be on my primary display. If I remote desktop into my home from work (which only has one display), and start netbeans, then if it was closed on a secondary display it will open outside the viewing area. It is possible to recover the main netbeans window using keyboard commands, but if I've detached any windows then they are essentially "lost" unless I reset the UI back to default, or wait until I get home and have a wider desktop again. Though my scenario involves remote desktop, I don't see why this wouldn't also affect other situations where the number of monitors decreases e.g. a laptop that sometimes uses an external monitor
