Reproducing issue 246598: Exact steps: - download ZIP of this project [1] - create a new HTML5 project for it (set SiteRoot for Project Directory!) - invoke NPM Install (can end with errors) - invoke Bower install - once finished, I left IDE for few minutes in background (switched to browser) - then I opened PageController.js and typed util. and invoked cc. Memory usage jumped to almost 1GB and IDE became unresponsive. Heap dump is available here [2] [1] https://github.com/JakubMrozek/Zdrojak [2] https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6Sd5ov8j7IUS2JmQnNodllOMjg/view?usp=sharing Thank you Product Version: NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 201411230001) Java: 1.7.0_72; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 24.72-b04 Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.7.0_72-b14 System: Linux version 3.13.0-35-generic running on i386; UTF-8; en_US (nb)

I can reproduce this. My guess is that you pressed CTRL+SPACE twice and invoke code completion for all symbols. I'm going to add an logic, which doesn't allow such queries. Only if there is a some prefix.
Fixed in web-main. The symbols fro empty prefix are not counted from index.
