I would like to use vi with netbeans but it seems that a lot of promises were made in Sept. 2001 and nothing has been done since. Lack of VI support is the main thing keeping my group from standardizing on netbeans. Is there some kind of bad blood between netbeans and vim? Thanks sgiss@eplinc.com
No, no bad blood. But the implementation is being done by the same group that does Forte for Java. We needed xemacs and vi integration for our commercial product on SPARC Solaris, so that, naturally, was our focus. The gvim changes are available, if you want to port it to Windows. That platform has just not been a priority in this group to date, sorry. The externaleditor module itself is, of course, platform independent. It should work as-is with a ported NB-aware gvim or xemacs. I'll keep this issue open as a reminder that the port needs to be done, but no promises when or if my group will do it. The gvim modifications will be contributed to the gvim source base. Perhaps someone else will have an interest in porting the NetBeans changes to Windows.
I would love to schedule this for the next release but I haven't the manpower (or windows expertise) in my group. I'll at least assign it to George and we will track it. Perhaps we can get to it in a later release.
