Description Petr Jiricka 2013-06-28 08:07:12 UTC
1. Switch to one of the dark themes in NetBeans | Preferences | Windows | Preferred Look and Feel, and restart the IDE

=> Neither the Dark Nimbus nor the Dark Metal look and feels look native on Mac OS X. The most striking problem is that the main menu is not a part of the OS menu.

The dark themes as based either on Nimbus or Metal l&f which are platform independent. There's no way it could look native on Mac - or any other platform.

Could a dark theme be made for a Mac OS native theme?

I find the lack of a dark theme a large enough reason to not use Netbeans, as compared to say, IntelliJ which has a nice dark theme on Mac that still has menus up where they belong (native menus).

Perhaps with swing being the way it is, this is IMPOSSIBLE due to swing internals, but if it's technically possible and I could help in implementing a mac os dark theme, I'd try to do it.
