JDK 7 doesn't work well with retina Macs ATM (everything is blurry). Please don't require it on OSX as it pretty much makes Netbeans unusable, especially for those with already questionable vision.
To clarify, the daily builds as of 201303262300 won't start, stating that Netbeans now requires JDK 7.
JDK 7 is required, because NetBeans source base uses JDK 7 language features and JDK 7 APIs. There is no easy way (if any) how to go back. It is not just about some launcher setting. Just for the record http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=8000629
Yup, we had to upgrade in the dev builds in order to support JDK 8 compiler and start working on JDK 8 tooling. We are working with the Java team to provide full Retina support before the next major release of NetBeans.
The changes can't be *that* big between one day and the next. The previous daily build worked fine. Obviously, the further you go along, the harder it will be.

Well, tell 'em to hurry it up, then! :) Otherwise I won't be able to use the daily builds as much and you won't be blessed with my brilliant and insightful personal opinions about how things are shaping up. Then where would you be?
Are there any development/testing builds of the JDK that fixes this problem that I can grab somewhere? I promise not to leak it...
No dev builds yet that contain this fix AFAIK. Will post to this bug once there are.
I guess since there's a compelling reason to use JDK 7, you can resolve as "Won't Fix".
(In reply to comment #8) > I guess since there's a compelling reason to use JDK 7, you can resolve as > "Won't Fix". That's right. Thanks
Yup. I guess I'll just have to get used to seeing Netbeans the way you non Mac users see every app. :P
