Description lv10 2012-06-12 22:14:28 UTC
I'm getting this error every time look for update or try to look for plugins. I have checked my firewall and proxy settings already and everything is alright.

Check your network connection, verify that your proxy settings are configured correctly in the NetBeans IDE, or try again later.

As a result of this error I having troubles downloading Maven repositories to start a project.

I tried installing Netbeans 7.1.2, to see if that would fix the issue but the same exact issues are happening on both versions.
Comment 1 Jiri Kovalsky 2012-06-13 10:09:03 UTC
Luis, can you please click the following URL to see if you are able to download the catalog at least from your web browser?

http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/7.1.1/uc/final/distribution/catalog.xml.gz
Comment 2 lv10 2012-06-14 19:53:58 UTC
Hi Jiri,

Thanks for your quick response.

I followed your instructions and I was able to download the catalog from the browser without any problems.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Luis

And does Proxy setting of your browser match the Proxy setting of your NetBeans IDE? Do both have "Use system proxy settings" option checked?
Comment 4 lv10 2012-06-15 13:28:33 UTC
Yes, the settings are the same, it is set to Use system proxy settings.

Furthermore, about 3 weeks ago I started a Maven project and everything downloaded fine and I even search for plugins couples of weeks ago. It was all of the sudden that I wasn't able to download updates or Maven repositories.

Can you please attach your <nb_userdir>/var/log/messages.log after your unsuccessful attempt to check for updates?
Comment 6 lv10 2012-06-20 21:47:29 UTC
I tried to look for that var/log/messages.log file in the directory netbeans but I didn't find it. As a matter of fact I didn't even found the var folder. The only var folder that I found called var was in ...\NetBeans 7.1\nb .

I downloaded the new version of Netbeans I don't have that folder or file available either.

This is the error I get when I try to download start a Maven project:

Thanks. This has nothing to do with Plugin Portal. Reassigning to Platform for further evaluation.

Howto find messages - http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqLogMessagesFile

Please, attach your messages.log. Also look on Maven proxy settings file in C:\Users\<your_account>\.m2\settings.xml and attach it here as well if possible. Thanks

I tried to look for the settings.xml and I wasn't able to find it. When I open the .m2 folder the only thing I have is Repository folder.

Sorry for not answering until now. Does it still happen? If you open Tools -> Plugins and clicking on Check for Updates does it still not work? Then please run the IDE with -J-Dorg.netbeans.core.NbProxySelector.level=-1
-J-Dorg.netbeans.core.ProxyAutoConfig.level=-1 (add the options to etc\netbeans.conf at the end of netbeans_default_options) and attach the messages.log (http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqLogMessagesFile).
Comment 12 lv10 2012-11-14 17:04:41 UTC
Thanks for your reply, however I was able to fix the problem. It related to my firewall. For some reason after having adding Netbeans to the list of allowed software, it wouldn't allow connection either. So when I need updates or internet connectivity, I just temporarily disable it. Unfortunately there is no better fix, I even contacted the vendor of my firewall and they have no idea what it is happening either.

I know this is an old topic/bug. The last reply helped me resolve my problem where downloading updates just hangs after 40%. So I just add for somebody else who comes across this:
In my firewall settings under allowed programs, I had two Netbeans noted (one I think is the previous version). One was checked to allow access through private network only, the other was checked to allow through public network. I just checked allow both for all. Restarted Netbeans and all upgrades loaded.

So, I don't think this is a Netbeans bug. How ever, I'm not going to change the Status.
