Bret Victor gave a great presentation at http://vimeo.com/36579366 that touches upon many important topics but for the sake of discussion we're going to limit ourselves to actionable features that may be added to Netbeans.

Please watch this video and break down concrete features that could be integrated into Netbeans. The features he introduces could shave literally days and weeks off project development.

Some examples that caught my attention:

3:50 - Real-time updates to UI as code is modified.
7:30 - Mapping from code to corresponding UI element and vice-versa.
11:00 - Similar features for debugging animated UI in real-time.
18:00 - Live code debugger.

I believe this should be considered as an umbrella issue.
