Product Version = NetBeans IDE 7.1 RC2 (Build 201111302200)
Operating System = Windows 7 version 6.1 running on amd64
Java; VM; Vendor = 1.7.0
Runtime = Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 21.0-b17

When search by Ctrl-Shift-F, the default selection should be Main Project; then if not available (no main selected) then the Open Projects.
I always search from this `main project` and very hardly do I search for `open` ones; I sometimes use `selected node`.

The last selected search scope is persisted now. Please try NetBeans 
7.2.1 or 7.3 beta 2, it should work correctly for you. Feel free to reopen if it doesn't suit your needs.
