Updated Smarty plugin to 1.50.1. However, once closed, the IDE didn't start until I disabled it via org-netbeans-modules-php-smarty.xml file.

Thanks om for reporting that, it's really terrible issue. I'm marking this as a duplicate of issue #199538. If you would have time, please could you try latest .nbm module attached in issue #199538 and let me know if it helped or not (it should be version 1.50.2)? Thanks...
