If the compile button is quickly double clicked (like with a defective mouse button), the manifest.mf file is modified twice (in my case adding two times the following lines:

MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.1
MicroEdition-Profile: MIDP-2.1
)

what prevented compiling.
