a perfectly good IDE was completely ruined by removing its best feature? now 
its just a HUGE text editor.

why was this feature removed?

The ObjectBrowser module has been removed from the standard
distribution of the NetBeans IDE. There was an announcement and a
follow-up discussion about this topic on the nbusers mailing-list.

The module is available on the NetBeans Auto Update server and can be
easily installed into NetBeans 3.3.x.

Closing as WONTFIX.
