Description esmithbss 2009-12-03 23:58:15 UTC
[200911261400 +]

It appears that as of 200911261400 the JavaFX components and capabilities are no longer included in the distribution for NetBeans 6.8

I tried creating a JavaFX application in Windows 200912030200 and discovered I couldn't create a new JavaFX Project. Then looking back found that the last version with the JavaFX components was 20091125....

Without the components (which appeared in early tests to be working properly) NetBeans cannot be used for JavaFX Development which is a primary reason for using NetBeans and a main category in the NetBeans Community Acceptance Survey.

1, This report is about public daily builds of NB from trunk - http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/nightly/

2, I'm closing as WONTFIX because the daily JavaFX build won't be published. There is only one reason for this decision - legal issue. Let me explain... JavaFX distro bundles JavaFX SDK. For the next release (trunk) we switched to upcoming JavaFX SDK 1.3 BUT this runtime isn't PUBLIC yet. So there is no other option then to remove the JavaFX daily builds from the nb site. As soon as we will be allowed to publish the SDK we will start publishing the builds again.

3, if you wonder why we don't publish the JavaFX plugins WITHOUT SDK... Unfortunately, the SDK and JavaFX language isn't backward compatible(in the way we are used to talk about this term) so the NB's FX plugins are tight to particular SDK. In other words it has no sense to publish trunk FX plugins as they won't work with SDK 1.2.1(or at least they will be buggy) and there is no FX SDK 1.3 available yet

4, sorry for inconvenience :(

So if I understand you correctly...

NetBeans Developers cannot get the JavaFX 1.2 components for the distribution because you are already working on the next version (1.3)?

So instead of letting developers work on JavaFX 1.2 components and develop their abilities with the language, which leads to adoption of the language and better market share for the tools, you have removed the old and new tools from NetBeans 6.8 completely until you get the approval to release the newest version.

Since the JavaFX 1.2 compiler is available, why can't we have the JavaFX 1.2 tools in the build?

JavaFX Plugin with JavaFX SDK 1.2 for NB development builds will be available in binary form through NB 6.8 Update Center.

There is no need to daily build frozen branch of the plugin from sources.
