Yes, the number is always "lower by one" but I am not sure if this is defect:

- the Members subtree shows the project members - these include you
- the counter shows the number of member with whom you might start a useful chat (if you see "1", it evokes the feeling
"someone is online for chat" and it is not very useful to know that "you are the someone" - it is better to see "0")
- online status is only a chat status indicator (!)

Leave this issue open if you feel strongly about it, IMO this is INVALID (=as designed).
Comment 3 hantsy 2009-10-24 16:47:56 UTC
If online status is only chat status...
Why not move to the chat windows, display it after the chatroom name in the chatroom list.

I've just upload a project to the kenai.com , the kenai.com support and the bug tracker in NetBeans confused me...
I'm bored about them...
How to change the issue status?
how to reply and add comment and attachments?

The task concept in Cuebon is more clear...
Why not reuse it?

Why not provide a webpage like panel to display the kenai.com dashboard content and the search panel content, like the
NetBeans Welcome panel or SpringSource Tool Suite Home page(display the latest news/messages/project from kenai.com)?
Why not integrate the search feature into the panel?

About the kenai.com bookmarked and my kenai.com project, may be redesign the "Favorites" windows(rename it to
"BookMarks"), extends it to support other resource...

Hi, thanks for the discussion, we need as much feedback as possible at this time. I will write some comments to your
suggestions inline (I will be brief to keep the thread shorter, please do not confuse this with me being rude;)).

Generally, we have spent relatively large amount of time with the design for NB68 support - after we implemented the
support for 67, few people (including me) raised some concerns about the concept of the Kenai integration (especially
about the connections among services).

> If online status is only chat status...

Yes, it is - we decided to do it this way instead of "everyone who is logged in on Kenai is visible" because this would
prevent people from working on a project without being visible online to everyone (sometimes you just do not want to be
disturbed).

Currently, there is a Kenai dashboard that displays all the information for the projects and integrates the services
that Kenai provides. One of the information displayed is a number of people in the chat. The number of online members is
a hint that there are some people in the Kenai project (so it should be in the Kenai dashboard, not just in the chat
window) that you can chat with. Therefore it is good to know if you can message someone quickly.

> How to change the issue status?
> how to reply and add comment and attachments?

What is not clear about these? :)
- You open the issue and you change it's status... [1]
- If you open the issue, you can add any reply/comment[3] and upload any attachment very simply. [4]

It is pretty much similar to the web UI. See the picture below... Of course, you have to be loged in to Kenai before you
can manipulate issues.

About reusing cubeon... this has been discussed already - main problem is that cubeon does not talk to other Kenai
services too much (now you can quickly write a message to the issue submitter [2], for example):

> Why not provide a webpage like panel to display the kenai.com dashboard content and the search panel content...

Yes, this has been discussed. There was very flaming debate about a concept like this one (mine proposal, draft):

http://kenai.com/projects/nb-kenai-coolboard/pages/Home
http://kenai.com/attachments/wiki_images/nb-kenai-coolboard/coolboard.png

I came with an idea of "webpage like component" in the editor area that would allow you to search and manage kenai
projects but now I think (after spending weeks of fighting and discussing usecases:
http://wiki.netbeans.org/NB68KenaiIntegrationUseCases) that the current concept is better designed (even though it is
not mine concept) with respect to what user who really wants to work on his project needs to do.

One of the main benefits of the Kenai dashboard as it is now is that it can be visible/easily found in the sidebar all
the time. The project details can be displayed on demand from the kenai dashboard, search can be easily performed from
the separate dialog. Both of these actions are used rarely (Kenai is not an iTunes Store - you usually read project
details once a week at most and you search only for the project you are involved in - which is 10 at most - and only once).

Oh, I am very sorry about the Issue operation(change status, comment and upload attachments)...
But I think it should be added some action indicator on the issue item in the issue list... Such as add a link on "ID"
or provide context menu for open or quickly change status.
Comment 7 Petr Dvorak 2009-10-25 08:50:49 UTC
Yep - my sentiments exactly:) - http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=175099

hantsy, back to your original report:
----
1. I logined Kenai.com.
2. Expand my project(NetBeans Extension Collections).
This project has tow members. I'v logined and I was online.
But the "Members" counter display "(0 online)".
----
Can you expand "Members" and take screenshot and attach it to this issue?
Thanks

Weird - I saw this a week ago or so and I was thinking if I should submit this... but now I cannot reproduce this myself
- the number includes you... (tested in Beta)
