Description gliesian 2009-10-06 01:32:33 UTC
If practical... somewhere in the IDE. be it the title bar, about box or elsewhere a note in regards to what NetBeans
IDE Download Bundle was installed (unless I'm missing it somewhere).

For example... in the title bar, have it read, "Java SE - NetBeans IDE" for a Java SE bundle install... or maybe just
some text in the about box.

...just a thought as an enhancement.

Note: NetBeans 6.8 bundles include Java SE, JavaFX, Java, Ruby, C/C++, PHP, ALL.

Robert,

What this information can be useful for?

BTW, you can actually turn "Java SE" bundle installation into "Ruby" one by uninstalling Java SE plugins and installing
Ruby ones using Tools->Plugins dialog.

I'm not sure how useful... or commonly used it would be.

The developer will obviously know what they installed.

But from a Configuration Management perspective, if a CM person fired up an
unfamiliar box, they would know exactly what IDE suite (per version) was installed (if the
information wass provided)... also, if a log file could be created that records
the plugin addition/removal history... that would be a CM bonus as well... even though the installed info is present
in the Plugin Manager.

Yes... you definately can't label the bundle as it can be modified to take the form of other bundles (which would be
confusing)... but you can include a note somewhere... (for example, "Installed as Ruby Bundle"). Even if the note is
only in a log file.

Well... actually this information can be obtained from the installation log file.
Search for line containing "welcome.page.type" (if it is not available, there would be no such line).
