This Bugzilla instance is a read-only archive of historic NetBeans bug reports. To report a bug in NetBeans please follow the project's instructions for reporting issues.
Consider adding a "Report Issue..." menu option under the Help menu that directs the user to the NetBeans Issue web page, "http://www.netbeans.org/community/issues.html". This functionaly does *not* need to be integrated into the IDE (a help link is fine), as the Web Browwer "Embedded Mozilla Browser" setting will do this (integration-feel) for the user... adding the issues web page into the main window of the application. -- Thanks, Robert

Reporting a netbeans issue currently requires registration so that even if having the item in the menu, there would still be a significant barrier. Another question is, whether we really want to lower this barrier, since it would mean increased number of bugs (including duplicates) and more effort needed to process them. While it's certainly good to have user feedback, there needs to be a balance. If we lowered the barrier, we would need a mechanism to prevent duplicate entries.
I agree, but if the link pointed to the page reporter mentions, at least our users find out what to do in order to submit a bug report... The page also let's you search for an issue, so an user could at least search for the bug he/she meets... I just liked this idea and wanted to hear someone's opinion;)...
If you can tag the issues coming for the NetBeans IDE (automated, that is), then that can provide another filter since you may be anticipating a large number of newbie (unchecked for duplicate) entries.
Petr: I'm not at all against. I just think we should be careful as this may significantly increase number of bugs. If we get mostly real IDE problems and issues, then no problem with me. Maybe Marian is the person to talk to about this?
Talked to Marian and he agrees. Let's try to get this into next version ..
It's there
