Every time I install NetBeans it seems to pick up only JDK 5 (probably the default Java on OSX). So, if I open my JDK 6-using projects, it always complains about the missing JDK 6 and I have to go and manually add it. Now, the problem is this is something the installer could be easily doing. On OSX Java has a pretty standard path, and it would be trivial to detect the JDKs present and add them to the Java Platforms list.
The java/platform is a java platform abstraction of the NetBeans Project System. It has nothing to do with the installer.
The choice of JDK is now the responsibility of the launcher and it picks up the current JDK (at least, in the latest daily builds). So far I treat the issue as the *enhancement* for the *Java Platforms* dialog (Tools->Java Platforms): "it would be trivial to detect the JDKs present and add them to the Java Platforms list". Nothing about installer any more... If java/platform is not the right component, please suggest one, I have no idea what is the right component for this issue.
When the installer does not handle platform any more it can be done in the java/platform.
