Description shipmodeller 2009-04-02 03:54:20 UTC
I had a great environment , worked for many years.. in Vista. I had javaFX and Web Services, Woodstock, loaded.. I Had
25 updates , so I said, sure.. go for it..

Netbeans 6.5 comes up with a BLANK FRAME, no content.. HELP! Included a jpg of the screen. Tried rebooting my machine..
no luck. Is there anyplace I can look to see why I am dead? Any Logs?? Help please!

I tried rebooting.. didn't work. Can't kill Netbeans with the "x" button on the frame, have to use TaskManager
... Seems to come up once.. then dead.. This version was Auto Update of modules in build 200811100001..

yesterday , I got frustrated so I downloaded a NEW version of Netbeans with a new JDK..

03/31/2009 09:46 AM 132,919,271 jdk-6u13-nb-6_5_1-windows-ml.exe

I ran this, it came up fine, then I uploaded two or three iceFaces 1.8 nbm and installed those. Ran great through today.
I rebooted my machine, and now, again.. Netbeans Frame comes up.. and that is it.. dead city Can't kill, can't do anything..

The only way to kill it is to do a Task Manager kill.

I am running on Vista Ultimate 64 bit with Service Pack 1.. I am adicted to Netbeans and need it for my work!... I
don't know the build number because NetBeans won't come up anymore.. but the above file name should be enough. Is there
anything I can do, java core.. somehow to get the info to you?

Tried to start appserver first.. still hung.

The netbeans inital small load window says "Done Loading Modules", and the red progress bar stalls at 80% for a long
while ( 20-30 seconds ) before the Netbeans frame comes up.. and that is all she wrote... dead

Please attach log file (var/log/messages.log in userdir). You can try to run NB with clean userdir e.g. "nb.exe
--userdir d:\temp\test"

Did you try to run it with clean userdir? Log shows several problems like failed deserialization of TC in
org.netbeans.modules.web.jsf.JSFConfigMultiviewDescriptor$JSFConfigMultiviewElement and probably deadlock blocking AWT
thread (causing blank frame).

Cleaning out the user directory by renaming .netbeans to .netbeans1 allowed the Netbeans 6.5.1 IDE to come up. Of
course, I lost all my plugins.. but I have been installing flavors of Netbeans as far back as pre-5.0, so with all those
migrations, something had to go wrong..

I still am not sure what is wrong and why Netbeans locked up so vicously ...

I will now be rebuilding my server lists and see if my big app works again. I have compiled a small app and that
appears to go fine,. The big app GUI screen works..

Thanks

The behavior is reproducible on Windows XP, Netbeans 7.0 as well.
I pointed out, that just the "openend file tabs"-settings lead to this error.

They are located at %USERPROFILE%\.netbeans\7.0\config\Windows2Local\Components and can be identified by sorting by the files by date (they are added most recently), and looking for the pattern filename#002Eextension.settings
If you delete them, the IDE comes up again.

I did not try to reproduce this behaviour in a "blank" installation, without any additional plug-ins installed, yet.
But because of I did not register this issue before, I assume that one of the installed and active plug ins is the guilty.

If you want I can send you a list of installed plug-ins or send you some of the settings files.
But I would be more interested in a "debug how-to" of this special issue.

Oh sorry, this is not exact the same issue (just saw the screenshot "blankNetbeans.jpg").
At my side the splash screen hangs with the message "Done loading modules.".
