Description esmithbss 2009-03-30 16:30:09 UTC
Although I like the concept of a fast IDE, so far I haven't seen any appreciable speed improvements.

If the speed improvement is verifyable, then keep it, but if it's only minor or just for startup then can it.

Oleg, please close when you fill the http://wiki.netbeans.org/FitnessForever#section-FitnessForever-Goal table.

esmithbss, have you run into a particular problem connected with the ergonomic IDE? E.g. anything you were not able to
use, e.g. without enabling manually in plugin manager?

Yes.
Most specifically, I have been concentrating on a ruby app. As a result of a subversion bug I need to do some ide
profiling; however, the profiler is not available until I enable the java modules. I spent about 30 minutes trying to
find/figure out how to fix the situation.
Similarly, I am creating a SOA app which will require the open-esb and caps modules which will need to be manually
enabled.
It's similar to the frustration I experienced when uml was yanked from the full suite and we found out after the fact
that our projects wouldn't load properly.
We, as a society understand change, but get very frustrated when it isn't backwards compatible nootb.

I wonder how struggled with the profiler. The "IDE profiling" you mention, is it the Profile Me feature of the IDE
(http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqProfileMeNow). That's a bit special case out of usual users workflow. In the release build
the feature will be hidden anyway - and people asked to use it will be given instructions (the mentioned FAQ we lacked
recently).

I don't know about the SOA modules (open-esb and caps), ideally all for SOA should be enabled when you create a SOA app.
Somebody should check this scenario.
Comment 5 Tomas Pavek 2009-04-01 17:51:29 UTC
To be clear: I wanted to make sure you tried to profile the IDE itslef using the Profile Me diagnostic feature, not some
of your app.
Comment 6 esmithbss 2009-04-01 18:17:34 UTC
Actually, I was trying to profile my jruby app as well as the IDE.

I guess Eric & co. seem to generate a lot of new yet similar issues. I see this as a duplicate. Either of issue 162361
or issue 162256. Anyway I guess we can close this one in favor of one of the others, less general ones.
