It's possible to create variable formatter without a name - that does make much sense. 

Product Version: NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 200903230201)
Java: 1.6.0_13; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 11.3-b02
System: Linux version 2.6.27-11-generic running on amd64; UTF-8; en_US (nb)

Add dialog now checks if the name is non-empty.

Verified ... and Closing all issues resolved into NetBeans 6.7 and earlier.
