The context menu item Create Attribute is not enabled by just right clicking a class. The class must first be selected then right click will have Create Attribute enabled. Steps: Create a new class diagram Add a class from the palette to the design area name it class1 Click somewhere in the design area so class1 is not selected Right click on "class1" Create Attribute from context menu is disabled Now select class one with left click then right click and Create Attribute item is enabled System: Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.5 (Build 200811100001) Java: 1.5.0_16; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_16-133 System: Mac OS X version 10.5.5 running on i386; MacRoman; en_US (nb)
may be mac specific issue, also with jdk 1.5. can't reproduce on windows. can you try to upgrade to java 1.6?

can reproduce on ubuntu with openjdk1.6.
