Description linuxwala 2008-08-28 09:03:30 UTC
1.In current Netbeans IDE's Plugin management dialog form, there is no provision to 'deactivate' multiple plug-ins that
are installed. This facility is available only for 'Uninstall'.
If developer wants to deactivate multiple installed plug-ins then he has to select each plugin from the left had list
and then individually click on 'Deactivate' button at the right top of the dialog form.
After clicking on 'Deactivate' button the other confirmation dialog opens asking user whether to restart the IDE now or
later. By default 'Restart Now' radio button is selected. In case user intends to deactivate more than one plug-in
before restating IDE, then he has to repeatedly click on 'Restart Later' radio button.
It will be much user friendly if the Deactivation of installed plug-ins acts on multiple selections of plug-ins from the
list after selecting respective check boxes in one go.

2.At any given time most of the developers work on only one category of projects such as 'Web & Java EE', 'SOA',c++ etc.
To reduce the resource requirements of the opened IDE instance it makes sense to deactivate the plug-ins of other
project types. Presently there is no user friendly way to deactivate all the plug-ins belonging to particular project
type such as 'Web & Java EE','SOA' in one go. To enable this feature multi-select list box can be added to Installed
Plugins screen of Tools > Plug-ins form so that developer can select the particular project category(s) -(which is
displayed as a column value in left side installed plug-ins list.)- and then click on associated Activate/Deactivate
command button.
This will enable developer to quickly deactivate the plug-ins of the project categories not currently required.
Same settings can be stored at project level so that at IDE automatically deactivates/activates preferred plug-ins at
time of opening the project. If there are multiple projects of different categories are opened in the IDE then UNION of
required plug-ins by opened projects should get activated.

Reassigning to "autoupdate".

Thanks for feedback. Take note you can deactivate whole category like "Web & Java EE" from popup menu over some of Web &
Java EE plugins.

Mock screen for proposed category settings dialog form in Installed plugin tab.

I would like to reopen the enhancement request as it differs from 103701 in that:
1. The settings should be context sensitive to the settings saved for particular project and not universal.
2. The suggested features are intended to be standardized for all the plug-ins installed in IDE. This will give
consolidated view of the categories that are activate/deactivated in concise way rather than having to scan through long
list of all the installed plug-ins in main list.
3. Further custom IDE profiles can be created and saved for future projects. Selecting particular type of projects from
new project wizard can thus give pre-saved plugin profile options to deactivate non-applicable plug-in.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks.

p.s: Please check with mock screen shots for suggested changes.
