The editor font rendering looks different when compared 6.5 with 6.1.
Letters like W,w and M are rendered noticeable worse where the small w in italic is rendered slightly better.
Maybe this could be tweaked until release.

I only tested on Windows XP with Java SE 6u10b28.

Yes, this known problem, see issue 137845 for possible workaround
