the external browser configuration has parameter "-remote {openURL..." which does not work in case of firefox
installation, which tells that "cannot launch firefox . . ."

forums mentioned to change the parameter to "{URL}"  which worked perfectly.

May be this could be done by default

It should work, the parameter is still in use. However it might be a platform issue, see issue #76970. Please, provide
more info: Which platform you are running on, if the browser was already running etc. Thanks.

As mentioned in the issue, the switch is not the problem. Making duplicate.
