The Ruby gem installation form needs to have a clear option on the
search field entry form.  This is far easier and more common than
requiring users to backspace out or mark/delete the field contents.

You mean the 'cross button' by the search field?

Yes.  Either a small cross button in (or near) the search field, or a button that explicitly says "Clear".

Also, it just seems to me that the field is in the wrong place.  The field is on the right, but the results are below
and to the right.  To me it seems like the field should be right above the list.
