inconsistent size of control elements

It looks more consistent on my Ubuntu/Gnome. The combobox arrow controls have the same with. The only wider control is
the '...' button for changing fonts. Are these issues problems in Nimbus on Solaris or in Netbeans? I would say
Solaris/Nimbus is at fault if things look normal on other OSes...

Hard to say without knowing the implementation. But it seems the "..." button is non-standard size (both width and
height) on both windows and solaris, so I'd guess we have something to do with it.

In many cases yes, but not necessarily. Some things may be wrong with NetBeans even though they look OK on other OSes.
Some nimbus L&F elements (e.g. editor tabs, etc ..) are implemented in NetBeans.

It's fixed in #216013
