Description asif_lodhi 2008-04-01 14:59:41 UTC
I am from Karachi/Pakistan. Every time I try to download NetBeans from www.netbeans.org, I get "403 Not Authorized"
message. This has happened before - please check out my posts to the NetBeans mailing list related to that earlier
issue at the following URL:

                         http://www.techienuggets.com/Comments?tx=19642

I told one of my friends about this problem. He is likely using a different ISP and even he cannot download NetBeans
from the NetBeans website. So, it is clear - people from Pakistan canNOT download NetBeans due to some weird problem
that keeps popping up from time to time!

Sorry to hear this has come back. Can you pls help us troubleshoot the issue - can you confirm your IP address is still
the same (202.154.255.7 in the thread you link to), as reported by eg http://whatismyipaddress.com/ ? Pls also check if
that page says anything about proxy servers etc.

Could you also visit this URL and copy-paste the output in this issue (or post to me directly if you'd prefer
jack.catchpoole@sun.com) : http://customer.llnw.com/traceput.cgi?host=dlc-cdn-rd.sun.com&ticket=507977

Please ask your friend or anyone else you know of having this issue to send the same info, thanks.

Just wanted to ask when do you think you'll be able to fix this
network anomaly. In my opinion, it's a simple matter of
blocking/unblocking IPs. Though I have gone though all the
legality-related stuff earlier about the same, I wonder why you block
IPs in the first place - irrespective of where people are downloading
NetBeans from and what harm could this harmless IDE do - as this is
just an IDE. I try to download everyday and get a "Not Authorized"
message on a daily basis whenever I try to download NetBeans. Please
enable downloads, at least, just before you release 6.1 final.

From http://www.nabble.com/UNSUBSCRIBE-ME%21-td16583268.html
I am unsubscribing! To me, its loads of spam on a daily
basis if I cannot download the software!...
...No, it's NOT unsubscribing me. On the contrary, it's asking me to
create another account! What for? Please unsubscribe me from this
spam! I don't want to receive spam AT ALL! This is plain spam if you
don't "authorize" me to download the software! Please check my earlier
posts - I just cannot download the software from Karachi/Pakistan! So,
THIS IS SPAM!!!!! UNSUBSCRIBE ME! CUT ME OFF THE LIST!

- To the reporter: Can you please take a look at previous post by jcatchpoole and reply to it (if you haven't done so
already?)

Thanks. To reiterate - it appears a block of IPs is incorrectly being denied access. The only way to fix this is to
identify the block, and to do that we need the IP addresses of anyone affected.

If you are getting 403/access denied when trying to download NetBeans, please visit this URL :

http://whatismyipaddress.com/

and let me know your IP address, and any information listed about proxies. You can mail me directly
(jack.catchpoole@sun.com) or enter it here in the issue.

This is now fixed. If anyone has further problems pls reopen or get in touch directly, pls include your IP address and
any proxy you might be using.

Removing meaningless "version"s for www issues.
