Description fdjsouthey 2001-06-25 02:25:21 UTC
I'm running Redhat Linux 7.1 with the Gnome window manager (1.4). I've had this
same problem with Forte 2.0 and Redhat 7.0 as well.

If you're typing merrily in the editor window and then use "ALT-TAB" to switch
to another application (e.g. a shell), and then "ALT-TAB" back to NetBeans,
sometimes the editor no longer has focus. This means I have to click in the
editor window after flipping back. This really slows things down, since I tend
to use keyboard shortcuts, not the mouse.

It only happens sometimes. I will post a follow up if I find a way of reliably
reproducing it. I could find another bug with exactly this problem, but it
seems to be part of a larger problem with the editor losing focus.

Btw, great works, folks! I really like NetBeans.

Moving issue to Core Module.

btw. I have the same problem (MDI - 3.2 Build39):

1.) The focus is in editor
2.) Now press ALT-F. The File menu is opened.
3.) Now press CANCEL. The File menu was closed, and focus should be moved back
to editor.

But it isn't. I do not know who has the focus, but if I do ALT-LeftArrow and
ALT-RightArrow, the focus is back in editor. Try also:
2.1) ALT+TAB to switch to some other app
2.2) ALT+TAB to switch back to Netbeans. The result is that caret appears in
editor, but focus is still in File menu. Canceling File menu now returns focus
back to editor.

Hope it helps.

I would help if I could, but don't have any time. Sorry!

Other test case when focus is causing problems:
1) in editor press CTRL+F1 on some class for which you have JavaDoc
2) Javadoc Index Search window is opened
3) press CTRL+F4 to close the Javadoc Index Search window
4) I would expect that focus will return to editor. But it won't. It is lost.
Only way how to get focus back to editor is only by mouse or by CTRL+3

the focus loss after Alt+F (goto File menu) and Esc has been fixed.

the original reported problem is very likely a duplicate of #16755
