Description wfsaxton 2007-09-13 16:01:18 UTC
When trying to install Netbeans 6.0 Beta 1, on Solaris, I get an error in the GUI.

ssg-ubur-04 $ ./netbeans-6.0beta1-solaris-sparc.sh Configuring the installer...
Searching for JVM on the system...
Extracting installation data...
Running the installer wizard...
Java Accessibility Bridge for GNOME loaded.

Then the GUI comes up with the following message:

----------
It seems that the installation of Base IDE is corrupted.
The validation procedure issued the following warning:

The installation directory /home/wfsaxton/netbeans-6.0-200709100000 is empty.
Most likely its contents were delete manually.

Would you like to mark this product as not installed and continue?
If you click No the installer will exit.

Note that these products that depend on the Base IDE will also be disabled: Web & Java EE, Ruby, C/C++, SOA, Java SE, UML
---------

I ran the installer in verbose mode and have attached the output log.

Lowering the priority.

The issue is the wording - it is confusing this it should simple and clear.

The initial suggestion to have something similar to the following:

There could have been previously installed Netbeans versions in the
following directory(s) that were not properly uninstalled:

/home/wfsaxton/netbeans-6.0-200709100000

If you choose to proceed, these versions will be cleanly removed.

There is also an issue in Registry.validateInstallations().
As the result, 'you have to click "Yes" about 10 times to verify you are okay with each one being disabled'.

Have to be fixed. Setting target for the future.

We`ve got one more complain (at nbusers@) from mspetrovic at gmail.com :

> Some months back I installed on my machine netbeans 6.0m10. Deciding it was time to try the newer version netbeans-
6.0rc1, I removed the netbeans-6.0m10 directory using "rm -rf" , followed by running the install script for the rc1
product. Now, this install script is complaining that the directory netbeans-6.0m10 cannot be found, and declares that
it can only install the rc1 product in some diminished capacity.

> Here is the screenshot of the installation process, indicating the problem:

> Clearly the rc1 install is looking for something in the m10 installation directory. The question is how to recover
from it?

> Can someone shed some light on a possible solution?

> Thanks.
