Description twolf2919 2007-04-09 02:38:26 UTC
After JDK 1.6 update 1, Netbeans on FC5 Linux now uses the default "Application"
font and size specified for the desktop. On my desktop, this is a 12pt font,
which is significantly larger than the default Metal font (11pixels?) NB used
before. Result: the larger font uses more real estate and in various tools
(e.g. the Explorer window) now need horizontal scrolling when before they
didn't. There currently is no way to set font size at all - except via the
desktop which, of course, affects all GTK applications.

Raising priority to P3, it's more important then P4 IMHO.

Raising to P2, it's important.

Unfortunately, I found no way to set font size on GTK Java L&F, it seems GTK simply don't support this.

Any ideas welcomed, but currently I'm unable to fix, sorry.

I don't think this issue should be closed. If the font size cannot be set through
the L&F, then NB should allow the user to manually set the various fonts (e.g. Explorer
font, Output window font, etc.) - just as it currently does for various other
Editor/General components of the application. this is a feature people, including
myself, have asked for for years, anyway. Now, since one can't universally set the font
size, this becomes even more important.

If this is not fixed, what is NB going to do about all the weird layout issues that
arise as a result of the large font (like some dialogs don't show all the text - it either
gets cut off or suddenly there are horizontal scrollbars?)

Hmm, but this is much different request - please fill new enhancement for a feature about customizing fonts of various
parts of the system, as you described.

OK, I'll leave this opened, but as I said I can't fix it, so what's the point to having this opened for years?

hi again :-)
You're right in a sense that this is a different issue, but it all boils down to the
same problem: font sizes should be settable by the user ins *some* way.
If NB has layout issues with reasonable GTK defaults (and I consider 11-12pt
Trebuchet MS font totally reasonable) then that is a bug that needs to be
addressed - either by allowing the overall size to be set on the L&F level or via
individual preferences. The latter is actually the better option anyway, since it
would allow for more customization by the user.

I can open a new issue if you think that no one will fix it under this issue #.
Can't issues be re-assigned to whoever might be able to add this feature to NB?

I think this is a duplicate issue 101740, wich is better resumed in the first message.
