Bug 42217

Summary: audit abbreviations for usefulness
Product: editor Reporter: Patrick Keegan <pkeegan>

Issue Type: DEFECT Exception Reporter:

Description Patrick Keegan 2004-04-20 21:58:33 UTC
This audit needs to be done thorougly. For 3.6, we
got rid of some obvious bad ones at the last
moment, like for deprecated JDK classes, etc. But
we should get rid of more (especially where the
abbreviations are two or three letters and expand
only a few more letters).

Filing as a defect instead of enhancement because
the IDE does things the user doesn't want it to do
(which is much worse than it not doing things
users want it to do).

Someone else on nbusers also saw two-letter abbreviations as useless -
I wouldn't say so in general. For example, I find typing 'pu fi st'
very convenient when declaring constants as 'public final static'.

I guess the UI (Gabo Tichy) and you Patrick should be involved in the
audit and possibly come up with the list of the unwanted abbreviations.
We would certainly appreciate any help in this matter as we are busy
now doing the promoD features and this is sort of UI related thing.
Thanks in advance.

I agree that Gabo's help would be appropriate here.
Comment 4 Gabriel Tichy 2004-11-03 15:21:19 UTC
We agreed with Patrick that current list of abbreviations is OK.
