Similar to what is reported in the following JDK bug. An attempt of a fix on JDK side has been integrated to JDK 7 a long time ago.

I got a slowness exception with NB 7.3b2 and java version "1.7.0_09-icedtea" which was classified as a duplicate of this bug so clearly it has not been fixed completely.
