Liang, Is there a directory "C:\Documents and Settings\Liang ZHANG\Start Menu" on your system? Could you please open regedit.exe (Start->Run and type regedit.exe there), open key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders and make a screenshot of all the values in this key? Thanks in advance, Dmitry Created attachment 43361 [details]
REGEDIT
Hi, Dmitry, I think maybe in English version of XP there will be a directory "C:\Documents and Settings\Liang ZHANG\Start Menu" on the system. But in Chinese version the directory for start menu is "C:\Documents and Settings\Liang ZHANG\「开始」菜单". Thanks. Liang, Thanks a lost for you help. The problem is that file.encoding property is set to Cp1252 and since it is used as the default encoding we get wrong bytes during calling String#getBytes() method when converting String to byte[]. Possible we should also take into the account the sun.jnu.encoding property but can`t say for sure now whether it helps or not. We`ll investigate further. Dmitry, I think I find the key for this problem. There has no problem in Chinese community for NB6M9 like this. And your reply implies the problem is the encoding of the nbi. For other reason, I have changed the "Regional and Language Options" of "Control Panel" and set them to English(United States) and United States. You know my XP is Chinese version. Maybe the nbi is confused when she meet this kind of environment and make the wrong folder for the start menu. I change the setting back to Chinese(RPC) and China. Then nbi installs all the things correctly. It is still an ISSUE in nbi, but currently I can enjoy the NB6M9. If you do not think it is an issue, I'd like to see the notes in the installation document. Thanks. Liang, This IS an issue, it is valid and not-only-you-system-specific. Your environment is also valid so NBI should be able to live in such an environment. I do think that we`ll be able to fix the issue in NB6.0 FCS but unfortunately I don`t have now more precise time estimations. Again - thanks a lot for you invaluable help. Dmitry Liang, It hope that I`ve fixed the issue. Could you please verify if you can succefully install the latest nightly builds? http://bits.nbextras.org/netbeans/6.0/nightly/ The fix should be in any build >=200706110000 (when it is available). Thanks, Dmitry . . Dmitry, What was the basic problem and scenario for this issue ? Was it that user was running in en locale but on a localized system so that en encoding was used even though characters of that locale might show ok even when in en locale ? Usually the model, at least for nb, is that the default encoding is that of the locale they are in, so this could be problems for scenario where user is in en locale but trying to show or process characters of other encoding.
