IMO this is greatly in part to HTML5. I was to port a Java Application into a web application recently. Easier to deploy and maintain.

It would be nice if Java had better support for applets. What I see is applets being left aside and inconsistent behavior for different Java versions.

With the decline of Flash, JavaFX would be a very nice way to run web apps through applets.

JavaFX is/will be a replacement technology for Swing. It's not limited to web and can be used for all kinds of rich client applications.
We use it to speed up GUI development and to make rich clients sexy again ;-)

Not really, because I would not consider JavaFX to be a "web UI" technology, rather a desktop client technology. However, I know it is possible to use it in browser-based UIs, as an applet - I'd be interested to know if you use it this way. How do you (plan to) use JavaFX? Do you consider it to be a "web UI" technology?

Thanks,
Petr
