netbeans subversion not allowing me to import source files

I'm having the identical problem in Netbeans 7.1...if I have no project 
defined, I can import, but if there's any project open, the import options 
are gone.

As soon as I create a new project, it somehow thinks its under version 
control and that there are new local changes.

Has NetBeans with Subversion have any problems with Iron Mountain Connected 
Backup?  I've gotten some very long, very unusual default paths.
