Description _ wadechandler 2009-02-25 23:56:17 UTC
In the NetBeans forums, users reply to messages, and those replies look like original posts to those of us who use the
mailing lists as those messages, correctly, get sent to the mailing lists. The problem is they do not have Re: in front
of messages that should. The forums on Nabble place this text in the subject and look to be threaded messages, yet the
NB.org forums do not. This makes it hard for folks to contribute well through the mailing lists as it is hard to tell if
there is more context or not to the messages.

Too, the users replying to those messages in the forum are not using quote to quote the other bits of the message which
they are replying, which is fine in a complete forum environment, but when they don't do this in the mailing lists it
makes the messages very hard to follow. I don't know the exact best way to make this better, but at a minimum if a link
can be included to the thread in the forum in at the bottom of emails sent from the forum that would help a lot. It
would be good too if the forum automatically quoted and the forum web pages explained why this is as the majority of
well known contributors, those who have been around for a pretty long time, in the community use the mailing lists
versus the forums.

Thanks for catching Wade, both items are reasonable and should be fixed.

Unfortunately webteam's workforce was dramatically reduced and I can't promise any date when I have time for fixing this :(

Anyway, I agree this should be done and when I have cycles, I will work on it.

Definitely worth fixing, once a while, I go through my mailbox with 1200+ messages and I look for the mails that do not
start with Re: and do not have any answer... This issue makes the process of evaluation of what threads I should reply
much more painful.
