After successfully creating the new project, I tried to run the main class (JavaFXApplication4 in my case) by right-clicking on it and choosing Run File. The exception below occurred.

After building the whole project for the first time, the exception no longer occurs when running the main class. So there obviously is a work around, but it is still not the seamless experience that I would have hoped for.
