whenever a new version arrives, we export / import options. but we have to
manually drag the panels until we have our preferred window layout.

would be fine if window placement could be exported too

just make a ZIP of <userdir>/config/Windows2Local

Thanks, Stanislav Aubrecht! Your suggestion worked for me, and saved me some annoying setup time. On Mac, my path is:

<user home folder>/Library/Application Support/NetBeans/dev/config/Windows2Local

I had to make a tweak or two, but mostly everything migrated as expected.
